Week 12 recap

I got up Tuesday morning and did my 11 mile run. I decided I was going to sleep in and do the rest of the week at night. Running at night works ok for me when it's a easy or longer run, but Wednesday was supposed to be VO2 max 8x800m at 5K race pace. I ran 2 miles warm up and the I did 3 sets at 6:59 pace with 400m rest at 10:00 pace. At that point I had cramps, my knee was a little sore and I decided that I was done with the VO2 portion of the run. I finished up with another 4 miles and called it a day.

Thursday was a 6 mile recovery run. Friday was supposed to be 14 miles but I was starting to feel tight in my left leg and my knee started to hurt so I stopped at 13. Saturday was 8 miles with 10x100m strides. I was a little worried about the strides causing problems with my knee and affecting Sunday's long run, but I ran it without any problems. Sunday's run went ok. 21 miles with no major pain. I actually could have run further. Total for the week was 67 miles.

I'm hoping that the knee problems is just my body's way of telling me it's time to change my shoes and not the start of something more serious. After yesterday's run, those shoes have 600 miles on them. I went out and bought some new shoes Saturday and I'll start using them tomorrow.
