Speed work

In the past 6 months, speed work consisted of doing intervals at 5K race pace. Since I'm not training for a fall marathon, that means I can do some training for shorter race and see if I can't get my 5K time under 20 minutes. This morning I did a 1 mile warm up and then did 1:30 quarter mile intervals with 3:00 quarter mile recovery. My goal was to do between 5 and 8 - I ended up stopping after 6. I did another mile at recovery pace to finish up my 5 for the day. It was a tough workout. I don't think I'll be breaking 20 minutes in either of this week's 5Ks, but I might be able to break 21.
